Walther Hermann Nernst
(June 25, 1864 - Nov 18, 1941) was German scientist who was one of the founders of modern physical chemistry. His theoretical and experimental work in chemistry, including his formulation of the heat theorem, known as the third law of thermodynamics. He won the 1920 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for "in recognition of his work in thermochemistry". He contributed to electrochemistry, thermodynamics and solid state physics. He is also known for developing the Nernst equation.
